Sony has made the WH-100XM4 out of plastic and they weigh 254g. Apple used high quality materials for AirPods Max and they weigh 385g. Apparently, Cupertino hasn’t learned its lesson here, and the $3,500 Apple Vision Pro “space computer” is pretty heavy.

przez Bloomberg Mark Gurman reports that after the introduction of Vision Pro, Apple has granted more employees access to headphones. Previously, only a select few were read about the secret and could prove it.

This larger pool of tests revealed a problem: Some found the headphones too heavy after a couple of hours of continuous use. We don’t know the exact weight (Apple has never published an official number), but the headset uses high-quality materials like aluminum and glass rather than the plastic used by other XR headsets.

Wewnętrzne testy wykazały, że Apple Vision Pro jest zbyt ciężki, Apple rozważa rozwiązanie

Apple reportedly has a ready-made solution, a strap that goes over the user’s head and helps distribute weight. Problem solved? Not quite as Gurman reports that the strap will not be included in the package because it is not considered essential.

In case you missed it in the opening paragraph, the Apple Vision Pro costs $3,500. And that’s just the starting price, before any optional extras are included. We wonder how much a simple strap might cost (and shudder at that thought, considering how much Apple was charging for Mac Pro wheels).

Speaking of extras, those will likely include corrective lenses made by Zeiss so people who wear glasses can use the headset. Either way, Vision Pro is due out “early next year,” so Apple has plenty of time to reconsider what’s essential.
